This was the first time mom had taken the kids for ‘professional’ photos; she was pleasantly surprised at how well the kids took to the situation. We placed them in the big orange chair and let them just have fun. There were giggles and grins and mile wide! But my favorite part was when mom was getting Lucy into her car seat and Jesse sat down to have a little snack….”Want some?”

Crohn’s & Colitis Benefit Luncheon
My sister has Crohn’s disease so I feel like I share it with her. It is my privilege to once again be on hand to photograph the annual benefit luncheon. Our good friend Lois Fink along with state representative Marko Liias helped pass a bill which would give individuals with certain medical condiditons the right to use employee only restrooms if necessitated by their disease. On May 11, 2009 ESHB 1138 was signed into law. Lois received the 2010 Mike McCready & Ashley O’Connor Award.
Mike McCready of Pearl Jam took a moment to pose with Elizabeth Smith (featured speaker) and her family. Elizabeth, 11 years old, has endured Crohn’s for most of her young life yet lives a normal kids life. She plays football, soccer, swims and loves to act!
Last up was Susan Ershler who along with her husband Phil were the first couple in history to climb the fabled Seven Summits including Mt. Everest. Most remarkable is the fact the Susan had never hiked or climbed until she met Phil at age 35. And Phil, battled Crohn’s all through his life as a professional mountain guide. We thank Susan for sharing her inspirational story. Look for their book “Together on top of the World.”
Fairhaven to Conway
I photographed a lovely wedding on Friday and stayed the night in Bellingham. I decided to explore the back road from Fairhaven District to Conway looking for tulips only to find the season is pretty much over. But not to worry, I found plenty of interesting sites to photograph along the way! From the “Last Supper” to the farmer’s market and a few tulips. You can see more by clicking here!
It’s all about movement
The most beautiful women have passed thru my doors this month including Shari. She specializes in creative arts therapies including dance and movement. She believes in “finding the beauty in the lessons of your life.” This is my interpretation of her and her work:

Envision Women by Lesley Holdcroft
I meet the most interesting people at my studio. I didn’t realize I had met Lesley before (as a ghost of West Seattle’s past!). She now stops in regularly to share her wisdom and her most current project: Envison Women – Opening the Feminine Mind; A cultural event that will be held in May at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Stage. From one artist to another my gift to her was a photo session that was most rewarding. She inspired me to create this graceful triptych.
If you would like to become part of Lesley’s project visit http://envisionseattlewomen.viviti.com
Poland’s tragic loss at Smolensk
As the whole world mourns the loss of Poland’s President Kacynski, so does a small group of Seattle residents who are part of the Polish community and the Seattle Gdynia Sister City Association who gathered today for a moment of silence in his honor.
In Solidarity members of the SGSCA gathered to mourn the loss of Poland’s President Kacynski and many other high ranking officials when their plane crashed a few days ago in Smolensk.
Members recalled the fight for Solidarity of which several were part of; and to remember the lost souls of Katyn; and to grieve the loss of friends made in Poland over many years of friendship with the people of Poland.
The struggle for freedom and democracy in Poland is an evolving process and we honor those who continue to move forward.
Zbigniew Pietrzyk, an active member in the fight for Solidarity at it’s inception, speaks to the group.
