Polish Festival Seattle is July 9

My polish heritage is coming alive at the 5th Annual “Polish Festival Seattle” this Saturday, July 9th at Seattle Center from 11am-7pm. There’s gonna be plenty of delicious food and piwo (beer), entertainment, displays and arts & crafts. As part of the Seattle Gdynia Sister City Association I lead the team that put together the Discover Poland Booth, so be sure to stop by and get this year’s souvenir bag!

And please stop by my craft booth! You’ll find the famous Pierogi Soap and enchanting little matchbooks plus my new vintage dictionary art pages in both english and polish!

Consul General Mariusz Brymora presented Mr. Ireneusz Prędki with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in recognition of his contributions to the democratic changes in Poland during the Solidarity movement. Mr. Prędki, a textile engineer from Opoczno, was the Solidarity leader of the Ziemia Piotrkowska Province in 1980-1981. This honor has been bestowed by the President of Poland. Congratulations!

The Polish American Chamber of Commerce Pacific Northwest and Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle presented a breakfast seminar Poland – Washington State Trade Opportunities in the Aerospace Industry. The Polish delegation included Messrs M. Bujny, Vice President of The Aviation Valley in Poland, M. Ustrobiński, Dep. Mayor, City of Rzeszów and Consul General M. Brymora. State of Washington hosts include Seattle Mayor E. Murrey, B Uptagrafft, CEO of Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance and Lt. Governor B. Owens. Companies and suppliers from Poland highlighted their expertise and areas for potential cooperation with Washington State partners. The delegation is spending time at the Aerospace & Defense Suppler Summit which coincides with Boeing’s 100th anniversary.

Spring Bazaar at Polish Home

GailAnnBazaarIt’s that time of year – time for the annual Spring Bazaar at the Polish Home on Capitol Hill. ‘Art therapy’ has paid off! We’ve created some exciting “Dictionary Art” from old dictionaries in both English and Polish! Matted and ready to frame, they make delightful gifts for anyone.  You’ll also find Pierogi Soap in Lilac, Rosewood, Rosemary with lemongrass, Tea Tree, and of course, Lavender. Plus the cute little matchbooks with a surprise inside and our cork ornaments.

The Bazaar is Saturday, March 19 from Noon-6pm. Come by early and have a plate of pierogi and a piwo (beer); then join me upstairs for a room full of wonderful arts and crafts!

Seattle commemorates Poland’s Independence

The celebration of Poland’s 97th Anniversary of Independence was held at the Polish Cultural Center in Seattle on Sunday, November 15, commemorating Poland’s return to the map after 123 years of foreign annexation. The anniversary program directed by Barbara Strutynski, included a medley of poems, music and spoken word presented by children and adults, with pianist Marzena Szlaga playing Chopin’s music and choir Vivat Musica singing traditional songs. Special guests included community leaders, veterans and former Solidarity activists as well as Polish scouting group.

At the event, one of the former Solidarity leaders, Jerzy Las was honored with the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity, a medal bestowed by the President of Poland, and presented to Mr. Las by Honorary Consul of Poland in Seattle. Congratulations!   To see more photos click here.

Yep, it’s that time for holiday shopping at local bazaars. I”ll be at the Polish Bazaar this Saturday and Sunday the &th and 8th of November with some fun gift items. New this year are charming cork ornaments, candy filled gift tags, and stunning wooden photo blocks. We also have the usual Pierogi soap, colorful matchbook magnets, and humorous holiday coasters plus Gail Ann’s images of Poland.

Camas and Seattle welcome delegation from Poland

The Mayors of cities: Zabierzow, Krapkowice and Morawica were hosted in the Seattle area by the Camas Sister Cities. The Polish American Chamber of Commerce held an evening reception where representatives of local Polish associations were able to meet and greet this delegation from Poland. Their schedules were busy with visits to Microsoft, Boeing, Coast Guart and Polish Festival in Portland.

Seattle welcomes Pomerania Region and City of Gdansk

Members of the Gdansk Trade Mission headed to the ‘states’ and visited with businessmen and women in Silicon Valley, Chicago and Seattle. The Associaiton of Washington Business, Polish American Chamber of Commerce, and the Trade Development Aliance of Greater Seattle welcomed them at a presentation and networking reception at the held at the World Trade Center Seattle on October 23rd. A small reception was held to welcome representatives from high tech and investment organizations in Gdansk, Poland. The govenor of Pomerania Region, Mieczyslaw Struk and the Mayor of Gdansk, Pawel Adamowicz were honored guests.
