Halloween in the Junction

The Senior Center of West Seattle asked if I would take photos of the trick or treaters during the Junction’s Halloween celebration. How could I refuse! There were lots of witches, lots of puppies, and lots of monkeyss! The most unusual included a robot, a cupcake and a blue angel…all of which won prizes for best costumes. Congratulations!  If you haven’t received your photo yet be sure and email me so I can get it to you!  gail@gailannphotography.com

West Seattle’s friendly ghosts

The Log House Museum held it’s annual fundraiser at Salty’s on Alki this past weekend. Guests came in costume to partake of a scrumptious brunch and meet several ‘ghosts’ from West Seattle’s past. Do you know who they are?

Left to Right:

O.T. Frasch, famous photographer who took many well-known photographs of West Seattle.  He was portrayed
by Alan Peterson, a member of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society Executive Board.

Frederick Schmitz, an immigrant from Germany with his wife Emma, a banker, restaurant owner who donated
the land which is now Schmitz Park to the city.  He was portrayed by Peder Nelson, a student in the
museum studies program at the University of Washington.

Helen Madison, Olympic medalist swimmer who gave swimming lessons at the Natatorium.  She was portrayed
by Brandi Carlson, a volunteer at the Log House Museum.

William Latimer, a mystery pioneer. Latimer was a relative of the Seattle Dennys who scouted the
Duwamish Peninsula in 1852, a year before the Alki landing party arrived.  Latimer was portrayed by
Andrew Harris, great-grandson of David and Louisa Denny.

Evil Dead

Evil Dead – the Musical

Theater guests enjoyed tuna fingers, pizza, and vampire bites before getting splattered with blood at this ArtsWest patron dinner.  Guests were photographed and placed in their own poster art as a souvenier!  See all photos here

The cult classic horror films Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness  were brought to life before our very eyes in this crazy musical. Five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods, and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It’s all up to Ash (a housewares employee, turned demon killing hero), and his trusty chainsaw to save the day. Blood flies. Limbs are dismembered. Demons tell jokes… and all is set to music.  For more info visit: ArtsWest

Smooth Sailing

It’s been a long hard road for my good friend and client, Shan Coleman. Like many of us, a struggling artist trying to become an overnight success, Shan has worked diligently to create his first masterpiece “Smooth Sailing”. I am honored that Shan has used some of my images on his CD and in his promo pieces. Shan is a talented reggae artist who recorded his first single CD in Jamica, his home. You can pick up his first release at Gail Ann Studio & Gallery for $5.oo. Or visit his website at www.nipleliplemusic.com

Kids gone wild

Once again, Ms. Stephanie asked me to photograph her preschool classes for posterity. This time I was gently bombarded by bean bags, chased the kids around the play yard with my camera and finally attempted to take the class photos. I think we did just fine; afterall, kids will be kids.

Envision Women by Lesley Holdcroft

I meet the most interesting people at my studio.  I didn’t realize I had met Lesley before (as a ghost of West Seattle’s past!). She now stops in regularly to share her wisdom and her most current project: Envison Women – Opening the Feminine Mind; A cultural event that will be held in May at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Stage.  From one artist to another my gift to her was a photo session that was most rewarding. She inspired me to create this graceful triptych.
