It was a fun time for all children, young and old, who stopped by West Seattle’s Homestreet Bank for their annual food drive and Santa Photos! I think West Seattle has the cutest kids! Merry Christmas, West Seattle!

Oh baby, it’s chilly outside!
When it’s time to do a family photo it’s time, no matter what the weather! It was sunny, brite, and chilly but we got the shots! Toward the end the boys started doing their own thing. Of course, those are the best! I photographed mom and dad at one or two school auctions several years ago. I’m glad I finally got the chance to work with all of them!
Thru the raindrops
It’s that time of year for last minute senior yearbook photos. Yup, I can still make it happen for you. Neve came by this afternoon after shuffling her schedule and mine only to find the rains coming – what to do?! Quick, we can do it…and we did, right in my yard! It was the fastest session yet and yielded some great images perfect for the yearbook. We’ll get together again in April or May for more clothing changes and background options; hopefully with some better weather.
Seattle commemorates Poland’s Independence
The celebration of Poland’s 97th Anniversary of Independence was held at the Polish Cultural Center in Seattle on Sunday, November 15, commemorating Poland’s return to the map after 123 years of foreign annexation. The anniversary program directed by Barbara Strutynski, included a medley of poems, music and spoken word presented by children and adults, with pianist Marzena Szlaga playing Chopin’s music and choir Vivat Musica singing traditional songs. Special guests included community leaders, veterans and former Solidarity activists as well as Polish scouting group.
At the event, one of the former Solidarity leaders, Jerzy Las was honored with the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity, a medal bestowed by the President of Poland, and presented to Mr. Las by Honorary Consul of Poland in Seattle. Congratulations! To see more photos click here.

It was the “Monster Dash!”
I helped sponsor this year’s “Monster Dash”. It was a great day for a 5K. Over 200 participants came to Lincoln Park, most in costume, to dash through the park. Those able to run or walk started the 5k about 9am followed by the Little Monsters Dash! What a sight…they ran their little hearts out!
2015 Seattle Polish Film Festival opens to great success!
It was a great week for the 23rd Annual Seattle Polish Film Festival. We opened with a complimentary screening of a Polish cult comedy called “Sexmission” at Northwest Film Forum. About 50 guests enjoyed light snacks prepared by the Seattle Gdynia Sister City Association, producers of this annual event. Next up was our first ever “Vodka and a Drop of Art” featuring 30+ vintage Polish posters and of course, vodka! Friday, Saturday and Sunday featured some great films including “Gods” the true story of Dr. Religa, the surgeon who performed the first successful heart transplant in Poland. The festival continues thru October 18, 2015. Hope to see you there!

What happened to the Kalakala?
After a long history of decline the once art deco inspired Kalakala ferry ended up beyond any restoration efforts. Sadly but heroically her bits and pieces were auctioned off to lovers of the world’s first streamlined vessel that was ‘more rounded.’
She created an international sensation and was featured in National Geographic Magazine in 1938. In 1963, the Kalakala was voted the second biggest attraction, after the Space Needle at the World’s Fair.
You can read more about her twisting history at: http://www.kalakala.org/history/history_timeline.html
Owners of Salty’s purchased several pieces of the Kalakala that have found a new home at Salty’s on Alki.
Here’s what I found…
Ellensburg or bust
Had to make a quick trip to Ellensburg last weekend to drop off students from Poland at Washington Business Week (that’s another story). Can’t remember the last time or if ever I spent any time there. While this was a quick trip I did manage to do some sight-seeing! The town is home to several establishments that look like they are out of the 50s and still thriving. The backroads with the beautiful light and rolling hills made for an enjoyable ride. Reminded me of my days in New Mexico, cowboy hats, pickup trucks and coca cola.
3 photographers, 1 salad
Three of us hit the road the other day to explore the small towns of Bow and Edison. First stop was Bow Hill Blueberries. A charming roadside farm that grows blueberries and the prettiest sunflowers. Next stop was the Edison Cafe. Had fresh turkey sandwiches that were very tasty (I only could eat half). We meandered down more side roads and found the bustling main streets of Edison. Art galleries, junk stores, antique stores, plenty more places to eat and the resident big brown dog. Bought some rye bread from the Breadfarm, where we watched ’em rolling out the dough for the weekend rush.
Back to Bow Hill Blueberries for some delicious blueberry ice cream…what a treat! More side roads, sunken boats, stunning overlooks, stone houses, Larrabie state park and dinner at the Chuckanut Manor. We shared one delicious salmon, peach, and shrimp salad as we watched the sun set.
All in all an enjoyable day for three peeps with cameras!
